Sabine Specht

Sabine joined DNDi in October 2017. She leads the development and disease area strategy and manages the filarial projects throughout all stages of the clinical development process for new treatments for filarial infections. She has a long track record working in the field of filarial diseases and comes to DNDi from the Institute for Laboratory Animal Science, Vetsuisse Faculty, University of Zurich, CH. Prior to that she spent 12 years as a senior scientist in basic and applied research at the Institute for Medical Microbiology, Immunology and Parasitology (IMMIP), University Hospital Bonn, Germany.

Sabine has been active in filarial diseases for more than 15 years covering preclinical drug development in model systems and translation into humans, leading to a strong expertise clinical trials in endemic countries. In addition, her lab accomplished new insights into host-parasite interactions, which are visible in her active publication record. She is a member for several editorial boards for parasitology journals and is appointed board member of the German Society for Parasitology (DGP) and the association of biological sciences (VBIO).

Sabine graduated in Biology (Zoology, Biochemistry) from the University of Hamburg, and completed her PhD at the Bernhard-Nocht-Institute for Tropical Medicine, Hamburg in 2005.
